Volunteer Time
Volunteer work at the Center
encompasses three broad
categories: classroom support,
fundraising and advisory work.
We encourage parents and friends
of the Corning Children's Center
to participate in one or more of
the following ways:
- The Parent Staff
Committee, which meets
approximately once a month,
helps to facilitate
communication and offers
families opportunities to
get to know one another.
They undertake projects,
picnics, and other special
events and fundraising
activities to support their
activities. Among their most
important efforts are
finding ways to ensure that
the Center staff realizes
how much they are
appreciated for their fine
work.
- Room Parents provide help and
support to classroom staff in
many ways, ranging from
organizing social events and
field trips to getting
information out to parents.
- The Fund Development
Committee solicits funds from a
variety of sources and in a
variety of ways to support the
Center's operating budget. They
work closely with Jodi Turner,
our Development professional.
Our major fundraiser, the Blue
Moon Ball, benefits enormously
from the creativity and hard
work of volunteers.
- The Board of Directors
makes policy and oversees the
operation, finances, and
long-range planning for the
Center. Directors are nominated
and elected to terms of office,
and the Board endeavors to
ensure a balance among skills,
experiences, and perspectives
that individual Directors can
offer the organization.
- Special projects benefit
from volunteer help on an ad hoc
basis. We appreciate those who
help out with our biannual
grounds cleanup, special events
and program committees. If you
want to offer your services, we
are open to possibilities.
Because we take the trust
that parents place in us very
seriously, we take every
precaution to ensure that the
children in our care are safe.
Therefore, it is our policy to
conduct background checks on all
individuals who interact with
children or work regularly in
the Corning Children's Center --
including volunteers. Please
understand that this policy is
never intended as a personal
affront, but rather, a
precaution to protect our
children.
