History
The Corning Children's Center was founded in 1980 as a non-profit, community-based organization. The impetus came from Corning Incorporated, whose executives believed that high quality child care was important both for their employees and for the entire community. From this beginning, the Center has maintained its focus on serving families throughout the community. A sliding fee scale helps to ensure that individuals at all income levels have access to our services.
Before moving into our current home, the program was housed in a series of churches in Corning and Painted Post. In 1994 we moved into our present facility, which was built for our program. Because we have outgrown our current home, we are looking forward to a new facility now under construction here on the same property; we expect it to be completed in the spring of 2009.
In 2005, we became one of the first child care centers to earn Early Age accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Elementary Education. Previously, we had been accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
